Kalabagh's Dam Facts and Views

Former chief technical advisor of the United Nations and World Bank,Bashir A. Malik said, "Sind and KPK would become drought areas in the years to come if Kalabagh Dam was not built. At the same time former KPK Chief Minister Shamsul Mulk has stated that the "Kalabagh Dam would be helpful in erasing poverty from KPK, as it would irrigate 800,000 acres of cultivable land.it would provide 3,600 MW of electricity. .Kalabagh Dam would provide 6.5 million acre feet of water to cultivate seven million acres of currently barren land.In response to the push towards side-lining Kalabagh altogether in favour of the Basha Dam project, that "Basha Dam is no substitute for Kalabagh Dam not because of its altitude which is high enough, but because no irrigation canals can be taken out from it because of the hilly region.

The participants of Save Water Save Pakistan Forum session demanded in their recommendations the implementation of building five dams, including Munda Dam, Kurram Tangi Dam, Akhori Dam and Kalabagh Dam, at least by 2025 to store water and generate electricity to meet the demand.Other experts who have strongly supported the construction of the Kalabagh Dam at the "Save Water Save Pakistan" Forum include: Dr Salman Shah, former Finance Minister of Pakistan, Abdul Majeed Khan, TECH Society president, Shafqat Masood, former IRSA chairman, Qayyum Nizami, former Minister of State, Prof Abdul Qayyum Qureshi, former Vice-Chancellor of Islamia University, Bahawalpur, Dr Muhammad Sadiq, agricultural scientist, M Saeed Khan, former GM of Kalabagh Dam Project, Mansoor Ahmed, former MD of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Foundation and Jameel Gishkori, among others.

Namal college,Hub of education in mianwali

In 2008, the famous sportsman,and great politician Mr. Imran Khan lay the foundations of Namal College near namal lake, Mianwali. This college is currently offering two four-year degree programs namely B. Sc. (HONS) Computer Sciences and B. Eng. Electrical & Electronics. Although new to the field of technical higher education in Pakistan, the college aims to become the best universities in the world.

Mianwali history in short words

In November 1901, present day tehsils of Mianwali, Isa Khel and Piplan were separated from Bannu District and Districts Bhakkar and Layyah from Dera Ismail Khan District and clubbed together to form a new district named as Mianwali with its headquarters in Mianwali city. The municipal committee was founded in December 1903 and has remained operational since then

Jinnah barrage currently facing problems

JINNAH BARRAGE (Pakistan) is in good health & its hydraulic design is adequate. Doubling Shall reduce the discharge capacity of barrage by at least 25%. Jinnah Barrage shall further lose its discharging capacity due to deposition of gravelly material upstream of the proposed weir.
This project of sub-weir at D/S of Jinnah Barrage poses serious threats to the Jinnah Barrage and the inhabitants of MIANWALI DISTRICT.
Government should take steps to save this barrage.Because farmers need water for their crops.
